Chapter 2

Michael calls Kaci back when he gets off the Interstate.

    "Hey baby!"
    "Kaci, it's for you!" Staci yells.
    "Kaci?"
    "No, sorry, it's Staci. Kaci is downstairs with Justin."

Kaci comes in from talking to her brother.

    "Yeah?"
    "You have a phone call."

Kaci takes her phone from Staci and sits down on her bed.

    "Hello?"
    "Kaci?"
    "Yeah?"
    "Shit! I think I just blew our cover!"
    "Hold on, let me go somewhere where we can talk."

Kaci gets up from her bed and walks out of her room, downstairs and outside to the pool.

    "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" Kaci says really pissed off.
    "I thought that since I was calling your cell phone, it was you that answered!"
    "Shit Mike, what did you say?"
    "I said 'Hey baby!' and then I hear what turns out to be Staci telling you that you have a phone call!"
    "Great, now they're going to hound me when I go back inside! Where are you?"
    "I just got off the interstate. I should be there soon."
    "Okay, but you're explaining!"
    "That's okay. I'm the one that blew our cover, so I guess I have to do the dirty work!"
    "At least you got that part right!"
    "Well, I just thought I'd let you know I'd be there soon. I'll let you go. See you in like five."
    "Bye."

Kaci hangs up with Michael and goes back upstairs to face the music with Kim and Staci.

    "So what was that about?"
    "Nothing."
    "Okay, so why did Mike say 'Hey baby' when I answered your phone?"
    "He says that to everyone!"
    "He never says that when I call him!" says Kim.

Justin, Jackie and Lucas come upstairs in their bathing suits.

    "Anyone want to go for a swim?" asks Jackie as he sits down next to his cousin.
    "Well, I'm going to be leaving soon," Kaci says.
    "Where you going?" Justin asks his sister with a confused look on his face.
    "She's going with Michael," Staci says.
    "Yeah, they're going to his place to get fucked up without us," Kim insists.
    "No she's not! She can't go anywhere until mom gets home!"
    "Why?" Kaci screams at Justin.
    "Come here," Justin says as he walks out of Kaci's room into the hallyway. "I thought that I told you! You CANNOT see Michael!"
    "How come?"
    "Justin, Jessica, I'm home," Mrs. Roman says, dropping her purse on the kitchen table as she heads upstairs to find her two kids.
    "See, mom's home now, so I can go out with Michael!"
    "What was that Jessica?" asks her mom.
    "She invited her boyfriend over and she wants to go out with him right now," Justin says answering for his sister.

Meanwhile, Lucas and Jackie are still in Kaci's room with Staci and Kim, who are leaning up against Kaci's bedroom door to try and hear what Kaci and Justin are saying.

    "Holy fuck! I knew it!" Kim says.
    "Knew what?" Jackie says confused.
    "Kaci IS seeing Michael!"
    "You guys didn't know that? That's really old news! They've been together for a while now!" Lucas says, making him feel special that he knew something before Kim and Staci.

Michael pulls in the driveway and calls Kaci's phone.

    "Kaci?"
    "No, it's Kim, who's this?"
    "It's Mike, is Kaci around?"
    "No."
    "But her car's out front."
    "She's busy. She's talking to her mom and Justin."
    "Oh, okay. Bye."

Michael hangs up and walks up to the front door and rings the doorbell and knocks three times, his usual routine to let Kaci know he's there.

    "I got to go," Kaci tells her mom.
    "And where do you think you're going?"
    "Mom, Mike invited me to the studio tonight. I'm going to the studio, that's all!"

Staci, Kim, Lucas and Jackie come out of Kaci's bedroom.

    "Kaci, Mike's here," Kim says as they walk by heading downstairs to go in the pool.

The four walk out back and get into the pool. Kaci goes back in her room to get her stuff.

    "You have to be home by midnight Jessica," her mom says as she shuts Kaci's door.

Kaci walks out of her room, purse and cell phone in hand, slams her bedroom door and walks out the front door, slamming it behind her.

    "Hey baby," Michael says as he plants a kiss on Kaci's lips.

Michael takes Kaci's hand and they walk to his car together. Michael opens Kaci's door for her and Kaci gets in. Michael shuts Kaci's door and then goes around to the driver's side, gets in and starts the SUV.

    "What's wrong?" Michael asks Kaci.
    "Nothing," Kaci insists.
    "You're lying to me. What's wrong?"
    "It's Justin."
    "What about your brother?"
    "He's always up in my business. and now I don't think Staci and Kim are going to be talking to me either."
    "Forget about them. You're with me tonight, and we're going to have fun," Michael says as he kisses Kaci again then drives off.

The two arrive at the station and walk into the building holding hands.

    "Hey Mike," says Woody, the security guard at the employee entrance to the station.
    "Hey Woody. Kaci, this is Woody."
    "Nice to finally meet you Kaci. Mike talks a lot about you."
    "Nice to meet you too," Kaci says to Woody, giving the dirtiest look to Michael.

The two walk upstairs to Michael's office. Kaci walks in first and Michael walks in behind her, shutting the door to his office behind him.

    "It's not like we're going to do anything!" Kaci says as she sits down in Michael's chair behind his desk, making him sit in one of the chairs for his guests.
    "Why not?"
    "If you haven't notice in the, what, three years you've been here, your office is all windows!"
    "Maybe later?"
    "Maybe."
    "So, what do you want to do?"
    "Well, I want to go online, but I want to go see Chris Marino too."
    "So go see Chris. You know I don't have a problem with that!"
